Popular Attractions for Tourists on Delhi Holidays

Delhi, the historic capital of the country, is like a Kohinoor in the throne of India. This heritage city has been ornamented with many attractions like monuments, forts, temples, mosques etc.

Topmost Attractions of Delhi: Red Fort: Red Fort is one of the most popular monuments of the city, situated opposite to Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. The fort was constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1639. Built in red sandstone, the fort is stretched over an area of 2 km.

Jama Masjid: Jama Masjid is one of the largest and the best renowned mosques of India, which was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1656. The courtyard of the mosque can accommodate 25000 pilgrims at a time. It is located opposite to Chandni Chowk, near Red Fort in Old Delhi.

Qutub Minar: Qutub Minar is located at Mehrauli in South Delhi. It is a long red sandstone tower of height 72.5 meter, which is adorned with delicate carvings and verses from Qurans. It is the tallest brick minarets of the world, built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1206.

Humayun's Tomb: Humayun's Tomb is another important Mughal monument of Delhi, which very much resembles to the structure of Taj Mahal. It was built during 1562 to 1565, designed by a Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas. It is located in Nizamuddin, New Delhi.

India Gate: India Gate is one of the most visited monuments of Delhi that depicts the colonial architecture. This masterpiece was built in the memory of more than 90,000 soldiers, who sacrificed their lives during First World War and Afghan war. It is located on Rajpath, near Connaught Place, New Delhi.
Jantar Mantar: Located in New Delhi, Jantar Mantar is a collection of architectural and astronomical instruments, built by Maharaja Jai Singh. It contains 13 architectural astronomy instruments, whose major purpose was to predict the movements of planets, moon, sun and to compile astronomical tablets as well.

Lotus Temple: Lotus Temple, also known as Baha'i Temple, is another major attraction of Delhi. It is renowned for its unique architecture, shaped like a lotus flower. Built by Baha'i community, this fascinating temple is located near Kalka ji, South Delhi.

Akshardham Temple: Akshardham temple, a milestone amongst all the temples is the largest Hindu temple in the world as well. Built in 2005, the temple is spread over 100 acre area. Its incomparable carving work, high technology exhibition, musical fountain show, IMAX theater and lush green gardens are must visit.
