In order to keep whereareyou.net free of charge, in this way reducing the hosting charges, everyone can publish up to 10 photos. At a small charge you can publish more photos. Please refer to your admin pages under 'Your account' to upgrade your account.
Your computer probably connects to the internet using a so called 'firewall'. Please make sure the securicy policy for whereareyou.net is somewhat less strict.
I takes so long, because the photo you are trying to publish is probably very large (more than 200 KB) and your connection to the internet is not so fast (slower than 20KB per second) Your photos are certainly too large if you try to publish them straight from your digital camera! You can reduce photo image size with a simple programme called 'PictureTray'. Resize your photo image files to 400 pixels wide or 400 pixels height. PictureTray is small, free and runs without a install procedure, so it's ideal for using in internet cafes with restricted rights:
http://www.picturetray.com/. It takes about 2 minutes by modem.
All you have to do when using uploadtray:
1.
Download uploadTray to your desktop
2. Log on
3. Select your photo files
4. Click the "upload files" button
5. Hold on a minute and
The photos on whereareyou.net are reduced in such a way that they look fine on the monitor of your computer and can still be shown fast through the internet. But if you would have these pictures printed at a photograpy shop, the result would be very block-like. Printing on a normal inkjet printer gives reasonable results, but not more than that.
Unfortunately you can only place your photos one by one.
Yes, you can, but please realize that this is not (yet) what our service is meant for. It is meant to support the messages form the diary (not the other way around). Besides they are not suitable to be printed afterwards. Would you like a website in order to save your digital camera pictures during your travel? Please contact us and if many people appear to be interested, we'll consider implementing this feature.
Besides the twenty styles it is not possible to change it directly, but when you mail your banner to us, we can place it for you. It should be a .jpg file of 650x80 pixels exactly and not larger than 15 KB in size.
Origin Concept and Contact
Its aim is to enable everyone that's on a travel, to keep in contact with the home front.
Yes, posting messages and reactions and a maximum of 10 photos is free, without any technical actions and without your email address being used by other companies.

Tell your friends relatives and acquaintances about it!
This website is founded by Robbert and Jasper and is constantly being developed by a fastly growing team of programmers, designers and communication experts.
When Jasper's girlfriend went on a traineeship to India in 1999, he came up with the idea to make a special website for her, so that she could share her experiences with her relatives, friends and acquaintances. It didn't take long before a hand full of other travelers also wanted to have a diary like hers, so in May 2003, the Dutch version of WhereAreYou.Net was born: WaarBenJij.Nu. In May 2004 WaarBenJij.Nu got her baby sister : WhereAreYou.Net.
Great! Please mail us your idea at helpdesk@whereareyou.net.

Video's
You can post 2 video's free of charge. You can upgrade this limit by ordering extra photo and video space.
Posting takes long because your video file is probably very large. An average video costs 100kb a second. A movie of 30 seconds can have a size up to 3megabyte (=3000kb). In an internetcafe the internet connections are usually very slow. With an upload speed of 5 kilobye a second it takes 10 minutes to post a video. Easyupload makes sure that the post will succeed by posting the video in small parts.
Easyupload only works with windows at the moment.
Extra picture and video storage
An upgrade is an increase of the maximum amount of photos you can post. You can upgrade your photo space the entire year, except for the last month, the month that your photo space will expire. In this month it is only possible to prolong your photo space. If you don't prolong your package, your photo's will be deleted. A month before your photo space will expire, you'll get a warning by email.
You already upgraded your photo package but still want to post more photo's? In that case you'll only pay the difference in price between your current package and the new package. For example: you have space for posting 200 photo's (EUR 18,- for the entire year) but you want space for posting 400 photo's (EUR 30,- for the entire year). In that case you'll only pay the difference (EUR 12,-) instead of another EUR 18,-. The expiry date of your photo package will stay the same.
Prolong your photo package. You prolong your package to prevent your current photos from expiring. Prolongation is only possible in the last month of your package period, the twelfth month of your package, and shall be for another year.

Travel Album
The Album is Ring-Bound and can contain a maximum of a 100 pages. Because of this maximum it is possible to send the album by regular post.
The amount of pages needed in your album is being calculated through the amount of stories, reactions and photos in your Travel Diary. If this is over a 100 pages, you'll see an overview of all your stories, whereupon you can select the stories and photos that have to be in your first album. When you finish the order for your fist album, you can do the same for your second (and perhaps third) album.
For now it is only possible to choose a white or black background. These colors provide smooth and readable pages, which the use of other colors, like red or yellow, can't guarantee. To prevent you from a disappointment, we now only offer black and white as background colors.
Horizontal photos differ in size:
- width: 2,8 inch and height: 2 inch or
